2006 election results: I received 4,692 votes (2.3%) -- 59 more than my Green opponent.  This was despite there being almost twice as many registered Greens in our district as the 2300 registered Libertarians, and despite her media exposure as a leader of the 9/11 "Truth" Movement.

I'm a software engineer and Libertarian candidate for Congress on Nov 7 2006 against 8-term incumbent Anna Eshoo in the 14th congressional district of California's Silicon Valley.

I'm fiscally conservative, socially liberal -- and disgusted that the incumbent parties have
mortgaged our children's future to buy votes from special interests.

Republicans want government to be our chaperone. Democrats want government to be our nanny. I want government to be just our referee and lifeguard.

Incumbent Eshoo has won five straight elections by a 2-to-1 margin. Don't waste your vote ratifying Eshoo's predetermined victory. Don't let the entrenched parties take your vote for granted.

Instead, cast a clear and unambiguous vote for the policies of the 21st century: personal freedom and responsibility, free and fair markets, and smart environmentalism.

Vote for Market Liberalism, which says the government should
  • prevent coercion and fraud,
  • provide a safety net for the poor,
  • protect the environment,
  • regulate basic infrastructure,
but otherwise recognize the freedom and responsibility of peaceful honest adults to
  • control their own bodies, actions, speech, and property,
  • and work and play together as they see fit.
If you like the way Democrats defend civil liberties but dislike how they distort free markets to favor special interests, you're a Market Liberal.

If you like the way Republicans emphasize individual responsibility but dislike how they try to legislate personal morality, you're a Market Liberal.

The Libertarian Party is the party of Market Liberalism.
quiz
I pander to no voting bloc, and challenge them all:
  • Non-voters: by staying home you vote to allow special interests to continue mortgaging your future.
  • Democrats: your good intentions are negated by your ignorance of the power of free markets and special interests.
  • Republicans: your advocacy of economic freedom and progress is sabotaged by a minority who wants to legislate its moral taboos.
  • Independents: you recognize that neither major party matches your principles, so take the next step and vote for one that does.
  • 3rd-party voters: if your principles really match one of these kooky 3rd parties, then don't vote for me.
  • Libertarians: fix the 5 mistakes in the LP platform that make the party seem like it's not ready to govern.
  • Single-issue voters: if you don't care about (or agree with me on) issues other than yours, then I don't want your vote.
Also
  • To the media: why not systematically analyze the candidates' positions, instead of reporting each day on how the horse race changed in the last 24 hours?
  • To Rep. Eshoo: I challenge you to answer these five questions.
